In an increasingly competitive marketplace businesses cannot afford to carry any additional weight that doesn't help them to succeed. A diverse workforce can provide tangible benefits to a company besides just fulfilling legal compliance and good faith efforts. In fact, as markets expand globally being able to understand and reach out to the individual needs of people from other cultures and regions will be paramount. A multicultural, talented, and trained employee base gives companies that key advantage. The word diversity hiring can also be used by hiring managers in the workplace to refer to a desire to add more women to a male dominated field, or vice versa.

Minority or black employment is one of the hottest topics in corporate America today. The latest census results firmly established that the ethnic make-up of the U.S. is changing at a rate faster than anyone has anticipated. Corporate America is already aware of the changing demographics; in fact many corporate front-runners established diversity initiatives back in the mid-90s. More than a decade later, the bottom-line results have not been measured in dollars, but rather in the demographics of women and minority recruitment, retention and supplier diversity. Every culture has something special to offer the world. Other companies may be frustrated that they have insufficient women in executive positions, or feel that they can really gain from a female perspective at all levels. Many minority jobboard may be concerned with the number of employees that consider themselves part of a minority group. It would then be up to the hiring manager to select a pool of candidates based upon the company’s diversity criteria. An effective minority employment program can provide companies with a valuable competitive advantage. Competing for skilled and talented employees is challenging, and will become even more challenging as demographic trends change the labor force. Market research can benefit minority employment in two important ways: identifying candidate demographics, and identifying their job selection decision criteria. Market research can help an organization understand “who” it is trying to sell to, and their basic demographics. Diversity is an important part of our world, especially in the workforce. A diverse workplace can contribute to productivity and morale, and hiring managers need to consider how hiring individuals of diverse backgrounds will provide this for their company. Having a strong grasp of these ideas will help manager select appropriate candidates.

All races and ethnicities or minority employment should be represented in an office. Diversity is important, and though we are now more favorable toward a diverse workplace, it won't happen instantly or without effort. Many minority jobs advertisements state that they are specifically encouraging those who represent minorities to apply. This does not insinuate that managers will hire someone who identifies as a minority who is less qualified than someone who is not. The hiring manager is always looking for highly qualified individuals.
