Minority” in the discussion of minority jobs is sometimes used to refer to disabled, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/black jobs, or first generation employees. Most commonly, however, “minority” is commonly used to refer to employees who are members of ethnic minorities, particularly African American, Hispanic and Native American employees and not Asian American employees (given the high persistence rates of the latter group). Black economic empowerment is an important policy instrument aimed at broadening the economic base of the country – and through this, at stimulating further economic growth and creating employment. The black economy is a cash economy. It is liquid and fast. It increases the velocity of money.

African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans are represented in any workplace for minority employment in percentages that are far lower than their percentages in the population as a whole. These populations are also underrepresented in the educational programs that prepare people for careers as any workers. While recruiting efforts are crucial for increasing the participation of women and minorities, it is equally important that we retain those already in the minority jobs. Black employment ensures that people can cater for their daily needs as well as those of their dependants. Some communities depend on the minority hiring policies so that they can a have a shot at some of the government contract jobs or even those by organizations and companies. This is more so when some groups are only in their hundreds or thousands in comparison to the entire population. This scatters them all over and if the minority hiring policy is nonexistent, they might not have a voice in getting these jobs.

A diverse minority jobboard workforce generates more opportunities to understand and satisfy the needs of a diverse community of consumers. This will create opportunities leading to significant increases in sales and profits. Organizations who understand their consumer's needs are better equipped to offer the right service and/or product. This translates into improved sales and good relationships with customers and suppliers. The current trend is for the better because minority hiring is alive and in use in most companies. This ensures that a company has a diverse workforce, which works to the company's advantage. For instance, this means diversified thoughts and ideas especially when the minority hiring process seeks to inject creativity to the company.

Diversity hiring is rapidly gaining ground as an asset of industry in order to widen their market. This dramatic shift to a highly diverse work force is part of the organization's efforts to understand, accept, and capitalize on differences. Don't look at all of your prospective minority candidates as a single group - each particular target will likely have unique needs. We know from our work with Hispanic audiences that they place a high value on family and the support system it offers. You need to think in their terms.
